Essential data: The name of our planet is Earth. The Earth is the third planet from the sun. Earth is a very interesting planet because it is the only planet to support life. Earth is the only planet that water can exist as a solid, liquid, or gas. Earth has one moon. The moon is 7.35 kg in mass and is 3476km in diamemeter. The moon is named Luna by the Romans. It is also called Selene and Artemis by the Greeks. The moon is the second brightess object in the sky after the sun. The first landing on the moon was on July 20, 1969. The moon has no atmosphere, but there might be some ice water in some deep craters on the moon. The last visit on the moon was in December 1972.The length of a year for earth it is 365.26 days. It's rotation period is 23.93 hours.

Since we live on Earth it has always been discovered, but we didn't have maps of the entire earth until the tweith century. Until then we didn't know completly what earth looked like. We have sent satilites to take pictures of earth that look very beautiful. In Greek mythology Earth's Greek name was Gaea. Earth in Greek mythology was the mother of the mountains, valleys, streams, and all other land formations. Also in Greek mythology Earth was married to Uranus. The only planet name that didn't come from Roman or Greek mythology is Earth. Instaed of Roman or Greek mythology it came from English and Germanic words. In the Roman mythology,Telus, was the goddess of the Earth, which means "fertile soil.Below on the right is the Earth planet symbol.

Physical Propeties:
Earth is the fifth largest planet in the solar system. It is the largest planet of the inner planets. Earth's mass is 5.972(24) kilograms.Earth's diameter is 12,756.3 kilometers. Earth's adverage tempature is 45 degrees ferinheit. It's adverage density is 5.5153 g/cm(3). It's escape velocity is 11.186 km/s. Earth has four distinct layers, outer core, inner core, crust, and mantle. The crust is thinner under the oceans and thicker over the continets. The mantle and the outer core are plastic, and the inner core and crust are solid. The largest mass of earth is in the mantle. Earth has many components in the atmosphere, like 78% nitrogen, 21% oxygen, and 1% of other gases. Earth has a greenhouse effect that raises the temperture graduly because of carbon dioxide getting into the atmosphere.

Planet Exploration:
Thousands of satalites orbit the earth every day.The first poeple got to the whole Earth was when the Apollo 8 was traveling to the moon and took pictures of Earth. This accoured in December 1968. Satalites are very important and are used in many ways, like weather prediction and tracking and predicting hurricanes. Some of the ten most important satellites that ever orbited earth are Golden Eye and the Galaxy 14. The Golden eye was launched in 1995 at a altitude of 820 km. The Galaxy 14 was launched by the united Sates in 2005 at an altitude at 35,780 km. Satellites are also used for radio and television.

Interesting Facts:

Some of the interesting facts about earth is they have Plate Tectonics keeping the planet comfortable. When plates collide, one plate can go underneath eachother. Another great and interesting fact is Earth is ALMOST a sphere. The shape is caused by Earth's rotation makes the equater bulge out. I bet that you did not know that Earth doesn't really take 24 hour to rotate on it's axis, it actually takes 23 hours, 56 minuets, and 4 seconds. And also a year on Earth isn't 365 days, it is actually 365.2564 days. The extra .2564 is for leap years.
